Appleton Historical Society was formed in 2010 as an all-volunteer non-profit.  Appleton Historical Society’s outreach includes educating the public through twice-yearly Appleton History Fairs; Facebook sharing; Riverside Cemetery Walks; and free monthly meetings, which include a guest speaker presenting topics relating to the history of Appleton.

Appleton Historical Society BuildingIn 2017, AHS opened its first Museum at 128 N. Durkee St. (pictured here) which closed October 20th, 2024 in anticipation of the move to the new larger location at 231 W. Franklin Street. 

The Grand Opening on the new Appleton History Museum will take place November 20th, 2024 5 p.m.-9 .p.m.  The new museum features The David L. & Rita E Nelson Map Gallery, Jim and Claudine Happel Fireside Library, The Courtney Woolen Mill exhibit, the Mary Beth Nienhaus Sports History Gallery, and the Community First Credit Union rotating exhibits of Appleton’s history.

Our mission is to preserve and share the history of the City of Appleton.
