Thursday Night at the Museum
June 18, 2026 @ 6:00 p.m.
We invite you to join us at the Museum for our upcoming Thursday Night at the Museum Events.
We hope to see you there — and don’t forget to mark your calendar!
The Appleton Historical Society invites the community to a special evening celebrating one of Appleton’s most exciting summer traditions — the Soap Box Derby. Join us on Thursday, June 18th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Appleton History Museum for an evening filled with memories, stories, photographs, and historic race memorabilia.
For many longtime residents, the Soap Box Derby was once a highlight of summer in Appleton, drawing young racers, proud families, and enthusiastic spectators. Although the race disappeared from the community more than fifty years ago, its legacy remains an important part of local history. The museum is proud to preserve three original Soap Box Derby cars in its collection, which will be featured during this special presentation along with rare photographs and memorabilia from past races.
We especially encourage former racers, family members, volunteers, and spectators to attend and share their memories and experiences. Whether you raced down the hill yourself or simply remember cheering from the sidelines, your stories help keep this important piece of Appleton history alive for future generations. This informal gathering will offer an opportunity for conversation, reminiscing, and reconnecting with fellow Derby participants and fans.
Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend. Come help us celebrate the spirit of competition, craftsmanship, and community that made the Appleton Soap Box Derby a cherished local tradition.
